Look and feel
6.44 inch?? Well Xiaomi made its first handset in phablet category with full-HD display (1920X1080), gorilla glass and sunlight display to improve readability at outdoor. It’s pretty slimmer (7.5mm) with rounded edge glass and trimmed side bezels compared to Redmi Note 3 to give a compact look.
Link previous Redmi Note 3, it also comes with two SIM slots with a hybrid one with microSD support up to 128. At this point I think, Xiaomi should find little cm of space on this huge box for a dedicated SD slot as almost everyone uses minimum 2 SIMs. So it’s a bit disappointment but thanks god it has huge inbuilt storage of 32 and 64GB.
It comes with mono-speaker with moderate volume and placed at the bottom along with USB port and the IR & headphone socket at the top. As the size, weight is quite heavy 203 grams and a bit slippery with its metal body.
- Software and UI: At the launch event of Mi Max, they announced MIUI 8 with Android 6.0 Marshmallow but initially it comes with MIUI 7 with an option of beta upgrade to MIUI 7. As we saw MIUI before with Redmi 1S and other successors, it’s really user friendly, easy to use with many unique features. With MIUI you don’t have to separately install apps for antivirus, app locking, weather etc as many useful tools comes in-built with MIUI which are generally not available with other Android UI. As per my view, MIUI is one of the most best available Android UI available on market. It doesn’t come with any unnecessary pre-installed apps.
- Camera: Xiaomi claims that Mi Max comes with a 16MP PDAF rear camera with dual tone flash with capability of taking Full HD videos as well. This rear camera is moderately good in outdoor and daylight conditions but quality lacks in low lights especially in indoor images are grainy. The 5MP front camera is comparatively better with beautification mode. You can take nice selfies with friends.
- Performance and Battery: Mi Max has 1.8 GHz hexa-core Snapdragon 650 processor with Adreno GPU and of course 3GB of RAM. Though it’s not with latest high-end Snapdragon 820 but overall performance is quite good and plays high-end games like Asphalt 8, Modern Combat5 smoothly. Where it comes about battery, Mi Max is probably the best available big screen handset in market. The giant 4850 mAh non-removable can easily last for 2 days with moderate to average daily use. By overall performance, it’s a good buy at this price range.
